Friends of Austin Neighborhoods Endorses 2018 City Council Candidates, Propositions

AUSTIN, TEXAS (2018-10-16) - Based on a vote of its membership, Friends of Austin Neighborhoods (FAN) has endorsed a slate of candidates and propositions on the ballot for the November 2018 election.

FAN polled its member neighborhood associations and at-large individual members to determine the preferred city council candidates for mayor and districts 1, 3, 5, 8, and 9. The preferred candidates are:

Mayor: Steve Adler
District 1: Natasha Harper-Madison
District 3: Sabino “Pio” Renteria
District 5: No Consensus
District 8: Rich DePalma
District 9: Danielle Skidmore

FAN’s membership also voted its preferences on propositions A-G and J:

Propositions A, B, C, E, G: Support
Proposition J: Oppose
Propositions D, F: No Consensus

The organization previously published a city council candidate contact sheet and candidates’ answers to a unique questionnaire on neighborhood inclusion and improvement.

FAN represents about 3,000 neighbors (homeowners, renters, and small business owners) among its 17 member neighborhood associations and individual members living in 194 other neighborhoods throughout the city. Friends of Austin Neighborhoods (FAN) is a coalition of neighborhood associations and neighborhood residents reclaiming the word “neighborhood” to include the full diversity of voices.
