Community Partnership with Advance Austin

The board of Friends of Austin Neighborhoods is currently considering a community partnership with Advance Austin. Advance Austin aims to equip future community leaders with the knowledge and tools to influence public policy. It will do so in twice yearly classes with up to thirty students. Advance Austin will seek geographic, organizational, and other diversity in the applicants it accepts into the program.

Advance Austin plans to include FAN leaders as instructors in the program and to invite all members of FAN to apply for its classes.

For more details, see the resolution here. Please don’t hesitate to weigh in on the resolution and the FAN and Advance Austin community partnership idea.

Just a note that FAN always brings policy resolutions to a vote of the full membership. Since Advance Austin is agnostic on policy matters, the board sees this possibility of partnership as purely an organizational and operational decision.
